Circular Econonmy Action Plan

Sustainable Enniscorthy worked with Community Foundation Ireland and VOICE Ireland in 2024 to develop a Circular Economy Action Plan for Enniscorthy. The project was funded through the Circular Fund.

Circular economy is defined as an economic model where
  • production and distribution processes in respect of goods, products and materials are designed to minimise the consumption of raw materials
  • the delivery of services is designed to reduce the consumption of raw materials,
  • goods, products and materials are kept in use for as long as possible to reduce the consumption of raw materials and harmful impacts to the environment,
  • goods, products and materials are recovered and regenerated at the end of their useful life

Air Pollution from solid fuel burning has been a key issue in Enniscorthy, however transport related pollution is not well understood, particularly in the town centre.
We have installed a traffic count monitor on Main Street which provide live traffic counts which you can view by clicking the button below.
This data is being shared with researchers and Wexford County Council.

Climate Champions 2025

For two weeks in April 2025 the Sustainable Enniscorthy team took part in the Enniscorthy Climate Champions competition! During this challenge, we carried out as many Climate Actions as we can to save CO₂ as a team.
Although we weren't the winnders, we learnt a lot about the simple climate actions you can do, on a daily basis, getting insights on our personal climate impact.

The Fresh Water Slaney Project 23/24

Picture
The River Slaney and its tributaries are literally the lifeblood of our people and our environment. Healthy rivers mean healthy humans, crops and animals. Much of the water we need comes from the River Slaney and its tributaries an important fact that is often overlooked.

Over 18 months in 2023 and 2024, Sustainable Enniscorthy has been taking part in an exciting citizen science project called FreshWater Watch. This global project aims to allow citizens to easily monitor and protect the health of the waterbodies upon which we all depend.

The FreshWater Slaney project involved thirteen volunteers visiting waterbodies around Enniscorthy, recording basic waterbody information, analysing water quality results for Nitrates and Phosphorus and recording these on a GIS App. The results make for fascinating if not slightly concerning reading.
